Don’t let bad eating habits sabotage your health and weight loss efforts. Here are 8 foods you should never eat – no matter what!

1. Margarine

Saturated fats found in margarine can increase blood pressure levels and put you at higher risk for heart disease. According to the Food and Drug Administration, saturated fats can link to potential health problems. Switch to a healthier alternative like light butter, avocado, hummus, or peanut butter.

2. Soda

Did you know a 12 oz can of Coca-Cola contains about 39 grams of sugar? Now, that’s a lot of sugar! According to new USDA guidelines, the recommended sugar intake for adult women is 22 grams per day and 36 grams per day for adult men. Avoid drinking soda and limit your sugar intake.

3. Bacon

Cut fat from your diet by eliminating bacon. That greasy, delicious bacon you love contains extremely high levels of fat and sodium. Consider turkey bacon, which contains far less fat and sodium than traditional bacon.

4. Canned Soup

If you’re watching your sodium intake, avoid eating canned soup. Although canned soup is affordable and convenient, it contains about a third of your daily recommended sodium intake. For low-sodium canned soup options, click here.

5. Dried Fruit

Dried fruit is loaded with sugar and calories, which can contribute to weight gain. Be careful when snacking on this healthy but high-calorie alternative to fresh fruit. Since the calories add up fast, be sure to consume in smaller amounts.

Cut back on how much sodium you eat by avoiding frozen or pre-packed meals. Not only are processed foods extremely bad for you, but they contain high levels of sodium. You can always make ahead homemade dinners and freeze them for fast and easy meal prep.

7. Milk

Conventional dairy products like milk are highly acidic and should be avoided. The acidity kills off many of the nutrients in milk, making it almost pointless to drink. Consider healthy milk substitutes like coconut, almond, or organic goat milk.

8. Farm-Raised Fish

Eat wild caught fish instead of farm-raised! Recent studies have actually advised against eating any type of farm-raised fish including salmon because it contains harmful pollutants. Not only does wild caught fish hold more nutritional value than farm-raised, but it’s fresher and tastes even better.
